Ø: What is the film about?

Petrus: It’s about a new beginning. There is this feeling of change in the year of 2020. I believe the change is going to be positive but it doesn’t come for free. Like all the other good things in life.

Ø: How was the process from script to screen?

Petrus: It was pretty straight forward. I had been thinking of this topic for a while and then I randomly met my friend Anton Tevajärvi drinking wine in Lapinlahti. Anton happens to be a talented DP and the topic of making something together came across. One week later I presented him this idea in a very rough form and we started planning it from there. At some point Katariina Kangas, with whom I’ve been working in the commercial world, jumped on board as a producer and that was kind of the moment when I was 100% confident something was going to happen. Since everyone’s calendars got emptied it was quite easy to ask the cast and rest of the crew to participate. Everybody we asked liked the idea and wanted to jump on board.

After the shoot I did a rough cut and started working on the score and sound design with Markku Mäkelä and improving the cut at the same time. Many sessions and cuts later we managed to get it to the level we wanted. When the cut was ready our friends at Grade One helped us to finalize the look of the film.

Ø: What was it like to shoot the film during quarantine/empty streets of Helsinki?

Petrus: It was so much fun to be working together on this project in the empty streets of Helsinki. It became such an unique and collective experience because most of us hadn’t met many people in person during spring and suddenly we were creating something together. On the streets the feeling was also something out of this world. Sometimes it felt like moonwalking.

Ø: The importance of passion projects for you?

Petrus: It’s really refreshing to do passion projects. You learn a lot while making them. Sometimes they might get pretty challenging because you don’t have any deadlines to follow so you have a lot of time to doubt your choices. But I guess that’s part of the process and the beauty of passion projects.

Ø: Who is Petrus Koskinen as a filmmaker? What can we expect next?

Petrus: To be honest I’m trying to figure it out while having fun doing it. For a fact I can say that I really enjoyed making Futur and I would like to make something with even more layers of story. At the moment I’m in this phase where I want to experiment different things. I also enjoy making commercials because you learn a lot while making them and you get to do them with nice and inspiring people. I have also few exciting snowboarding projects lined up for 2021 and that's where my roots are.. So all in all i'm excited for the Futur & e.
