The mountains of lapland look a bit like a patchwork this time of the year. Polar night is over and the sun is getting higher while the snowy veil starts to crack. In some places I can already see the raw and rocky arctic soil but there is still enough snow for skiing. I'm on top of the highest mountain in the area and when I take a look at the horizon all my eyes can see is endless forest and wilderness. It's a harmonic scene. You can easily forget yourself in the moment. The world around me is sliding further and I'm dreaming under the warm april sun.
I wake up from my thoughts when I hear someone skiing close by. His flannel shirt looks familiar and as he gets closer I recognize this long haired character from somewhere... He is smiling and skiing past me with a narrow stance tweaking his skis from turn to turn. I haven't seen him around for years but today the time, location, worship for classic freeskiing and the sound of an old film camera have brought him back from the shadows of utopia. He asks me to join him.
I feel the sun on my face. My poles sink into the snow when I push myself down the hill. Slowly the slope gets steeper, the speed gets faster and the moguls around me get bigger. I see the joy of spring days on the surface of this shredded slope.
Decades old film camera is purring and my skis whittle the slushy moguls. I choose a line which feels the most attractive for me right now and then I just go. I keep my eyes couple of bumps ahead and that's all I have on my mind. The character I just met came over to pick me up from somewhere in my own thoughts. Freeskier Dädi brought me right here right now to the perfect presence.
